SB Energy files for IPO to fund AI data-centre buildout
The Nasdaq and Nasdaq Texas listing under ticker SBE comes as SB Energy reports a roughly $3.2 billion net loss in the first half of 2026 and plans AI power projects with OpenAI and Nvidia backing.
SB Energy has filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission for an initial public offering, positioning the company for a potential public-market debut as it expands into powering artificial intelligence data centres, according to LiveMint Markets.
The company, backed by SoftBank, OpenAI and Nvidia, plans to list on the Nasdaq and Nasdaq Texas under the ticker SBE. It has not disclosed the size or pricing of the offering, though the Wall Street Journal reported SB Energy could seek to raise between $5 billion and $7 billion and begin trading as soon as this month.
SB Energy’s IPO filing follows Nvidia’s $105 billion financing commitment for an OpenAI data-centre project in Ohio that SB Energy will build. LiveMint Markets reports SB Energy said Nvidia’s involvement could help it unlock investment-grade financing and improve the chances of execution.
In its filing, the company said none of its data centres were operational as of the filing date and it had not yet generated revenue from that business. SB Energy also reported about $139 million in revenue in the first half of 2026, primarily from its legacy energy operations, and a net loss of approximately $3.2 billion tied largely to investment in its data-centre strategy.
