Uphold offers direct swaps across crypto, metals, and national currencies

Uphold routes orders through external exchanges and quotes an all-in price, which the platform incorporates into spreads on every trade.

Uphold is positioning itself as a broader trading hub by allowing users to swap directly between more than 250 cryptocurrencies, four precious metals, and dozens of national currencies. The platform uses what it calls an anything-to-anything model, which lets customers move from one asset to another without routing through a cash step.

In hands-on coverage, Yahoo Finance describes how Uphold’s system quotes an all-in price for each order and routes trades across a network of external exchanges and quotes. The outlet adds that Uphold folds its fee into the spread on every trade, meaning the price shown already includes its cut, and that the all-in price can run higher than several rivals.

The review also highlights limits in what Uphold offers alongside those markets, noting there are no stocks or exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and that advanced trading tools aimed at active traders are not available. It says Uphold launched in 2015 and now serves more than 10 million users worldwide, with its U.S. arm, Uphold HQ Inc., based in Larkspur, California.

On safeguards and availability, Yahoo Finance reports that Uphold says it will not lend out customer assets and stays fully reserved, publishing assets and liabilities in real time for users to check. It also says the service is licensed in 42 U.S. states, listing California and several others as excluded.
