Xi gives Iran president a low profile at SCO summit
Beijing moved to avoid signaling closeness to Tehran shortly before a high stakes summit involving Trump.
China’s President Xi Jinping gave Iran’s president Masoud Pezeshkian a brief, low profile audience at the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit, according to CNBC.
The move reflects Beijing’s effort to manage optics ahead of a higher stakes summit between Xi and US President Donald Trump, as China looks to avoid appearing too closely aligned with Tehran, CNBC reported.
