Bitcoin’s golden cross nears as USDT dominance hints at rotation
CoinDesk notes that bitcoin has averaged a 24.9% three-month gain since 2012 on golden-cross signals, while only 3 of 12 have held for a full year.
Bitcoin is nearing a “golden cross,” a technical pattern that forms when the 50-day moving average rises above the 200-day moving average, a setup CoinDesk links to the potential start of a longer-term bullish trend.
The outlet notes that golden crosses tracked since 2012 have produced an average 24.9% gain over the following three months, but the reliability has been mixed, with only 3 of 12 signals remaining valid for a full year.
CoinDesk also points to the broader context from stablecoin markets, saying a potential “death cross” in USDT’s market dominance could reinforce the bullish read by suggesting capital is rotating out of the dollar-pegged stablecoin into bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies.
The analysis highlights that bitcoin’s historical outcomes varied, including a signal on Feb. 9, 2012 that preceded a 306% gain over the next year, alongside other crosses that were later negated by opposing patterns soon after they appeared.
