Iran attack kills two Filipino sailors on Saudi oil tanker in Hormuz

Saudi Arabia said the attack, involving a Bahri tanker transiting the Strait of Hormuz, raised the need to halt escalations and protect global energy supplies.

Saudi Arabia said an Iranian attack on an oil tanker owned by its national shipping company killed two Filipino seafarers. The tanker, Sidr, owned by Bahri, was one of two supertankers carrying Saudi oil reported to have been hit late on Monday while transiting the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reported.

Bahri said the seafarers were killed in a security incident involving Sidr at 11:40pm local time on Monday. The incident comes as Tehran has threatened tankers attempting to sail through the narrow waterway without authorization.

Saudi Arabia stressed the need to stop escalations and respect international maritime safety and the security of global energy supplies, according to the Saudi foreign ministry. Bahri said it was in continuous contact with the vessel, coordinating with relevant authorities and maritime industry stakeholders, and monitoring developments closely.
