Trump suggests renaming the Strait of Hormuz the Trump Strait

U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright said more than 17 million barrels of oil transited the strait on Monday, a wartime record.

President Donald Trump has suggested renaming the Strait of Hormuz as the “Trump Strait,” posting the idea on social media while the waterway remains contested during the war with Iran, according to SCMP Economy.

CNBC Markets and CNBC World report that U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright told CNBC the strait saw more than 17 million barrels of oil transit on Monday, described as a wartime record.

The remarks add to ongoing attention on the strategic role of the corridor for global oil flows as tensions with Iran continue.
