World open-sources ProveKit, a zero-knowledge identity proving toolkit

The toolkit, already used in World ID since April, lets verifiers confirm specific claims like age or ID ownership without sending personal data to external servers.

World has open-sourced ProveKit, a zero-knowledge identity proving toolkit that has been used in its World ID product since early access began in April, The Block reports.

World said ProveKit allows users to generate cryptographic proofs on their own phone or browser to verify claims such as age, nationality, or ownership of a valid identity document while not revealing the underlying personal data to the verifier.

The company also said ProveKit uses local proof generation rather than delegated proving, meaning sensitive personal information does not need to be sent to external servers for processing, a design it says reduces exposure risk and keeps users in control.

The Block notes the development follows separate reporting earlier this week by Brian Krebs that the FBI is investigating the dark web service Nexus, which sells scans of more than 153 million U.S. and Canadian driver's licenses.
