US emissaries attend separate talks during SCO summit in Central Asia
The meetings included Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan, while Uzbek officials highlighted preparations for the C5+1 format and a US-Uzbekistan business and investment council meeting.
Two high-level Trump administration emissaries held separate talks with top Central Asian leaders while the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit was underway in Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, according to OilPrice.
The outlet said the emissaries, US special envoy Sergio Gor and retiring Republican Senator Steve Daines, were not invited and did not participate in SCO events, but met with the presidents of Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, and Uzbekistan.
OilPrice reported that leading SCO participants, including officials from China, Russia, and Iran, were seeking to strengthen an anti-US coalition focused on reducing Washington’s global economic influence, with Iran’s president advancing a plan aimed at “de-dollarizing” the global economy.
In a statement carried by OilPrice, the Uzbek government said it was paying special attention to preparations for upcoming events under the C5+1 framework, as well as the next meeting of the US-Uzbekistan Business and Investment Council, which is tied to expanded US economic cooperation with the region.
