Amazon cargo plane overshoots Miami runway, leaving 5 dead
All flights at Miami International were temporarily grounded as the NTSB investigated the Sunday crash of a Boeing 767-300.
Investigators are working to determine what caused an Amazon cargo plane to overshoot the runway after landing at Miami International Airport, an incident that killed five people and left five others seriously injured, according to BBC Business.
The aircraft, operated by 21 Air, was a Boeing 767-300 that crashed just before 14:00 local time on Sunday, crossing a road beyond the runway and striking several vehicles on the ground. It is not yet clear whether the fatalities were in the aircraft, on the ground, or both.
BBC Business reports that the National Transportation Safety Board is scheduled to brief reporters on Monday afternoon. Three of the injured were in critical condition, and some people trapped inside or under vehicles on the ground needed to be extricated by fire and rescue crews.
The Federal Aviation Administration temporarily grounded all flights at the airport following the crash, which occurred during Labor Day weekend.
Flight data cited by BBC Business from FlightRadar24 showed the cargo flight was traveling at 112 knots, or about 129 mph, as it exited the usable runway.
