FS Grain expands St. Anne, Illinois elevator with more storage and rail capacity
The upgrades raise storage to 3.8 million bushels and expand rail loading to 110-plus cars carrying over 400,000 bushels at a time.
FS Grain has upgraded and expanded its grain elevator in St. Anne, Illinois, adding a new shuttle loader, more grain storage, and increased rail receiving and drying capacity, World Grain reported. The company said a ribbon-cutting and harvest kick-off is scheduled for Sept. 10.
The project increases storage capacity from 2.6 million to 3.8 million bushels. It also expands the rail facility to load 110-plus car trains carrying more than 400,000 bushels at a time, compared with 25 cars and about 90,000 bushels previously.
World Grain said the improvements include increased drying capacity and new, high-speed receiving pits designed to help trucks unload faster during peak harvest. The expanded rail loading system features Rayhawk, an autonomous railcar lid opening and closing system that uses machine learning, computer vision, and robotics to operate without worker intervention.
FS Grain said the safety upgrade eliminates the need to climb on top of railcars and is intended to let the facility receive, store, and move grain more efficiently and safely throughout the year. The company also said the expanded rail capacity will connect local grain to more end-user markets across the southeastern and southwestern United States and Mexico, serving hog, cattle, and poultry industries.
