Harmony plans to sunset its Layer 1 and migrate ONE to Ethereum

Validators can stop node operations starting Sept. 10, and Harmony set aside $1.37 million to help compensate them for shutting down and transitioning.

Harmony says it will fully sunset its Layer 1 blockchain and transition into a new AI video initiative, including a proposed move of its native ONE token to Ethereum, according to The Block.

The platform cited continued security threats, saying the risks posed by state actors and AI agents are too great. Harmony also said it has been attacked since its mainnet launch in 2019, but is now ending the network.

Harmony said it will help validators transition into new roles tied to a proposed “remix economy” for AI video creators, where a small group of creators publish open prompts and assets that fans can fork and remix, and AI agents would convert each fork into multiple clips.

In a separate operational plan, Harmony said validators can cease node operations starting Sept. 10 and that it set aside a pool of $1.37 million to compensate validators who sunset their nodes, sign an agreement, maintain their stakes, and transition to “governors.” The Block also reports Harmony proposed snapshotting token holdings and staking positions at the final block for an Ethereum airdrop of new ONE tokens, without requiring action from holders, delegators, or validators.
