Router Protocol plans Sept. 30 shutdown and burn of 303.3M ROUTE
Router said it will permanently burn 303,333,198 ROUTE held in its treasury, while its notice gives explicit withdrawal steps only for ROUTE listed on centralized exchanges.
Router Protocol plans to stop operations by Sept. 30, 2026 and permanently burn 303,333,198 ROUTE from its treasury, the cross-chain project said in a Sept. 4 notice, ending more than four years of work that included a bridge and cross-chain messaging features.
In the notice, Router’s only specific withdrawal instruction applies to holders of ROUTE on centralized exchanges, telling those users to follow each exchange’s delisting notice and withdraw before the venue-specific deadline. The project did not provide a separate withdrawal timetable in its notice for assets in bridge contracts or for liquidity-provider positions.
Router described the 303,333,198 ROUTE as “currently pending in the treasury,” but it did not identify the source addresses, the burn mechanism, or the execution date. CoinGecko’s supply breakdown and Etherscan show balances that total 303,333,198 ROUTE across three Ethereum addresses, but the article notes that the matching totals do not prove those wallets are the burn source because Router did not link them in its notice.
DefiLlama reported $9,879.92 in Router Protocol total value locked at its cutoff, including $9,837.37 on Aurora, and said there was no bridge volume over the prior 30 completed days. DefiLlama also reported that Aurora accounted for 99.6% of Router’s tracked TVL, while the data provider’s methodology tracks tokens locked in Router contracts without showing who owns them or whether any positions require action.
