Solana triples its max transaction size to 4,096 bytes

The Transaction v1 rollout on Wednesday increases the ceiling from 1,232 bytes, enabling larger proofs, multisig approvals, and confidential transfers in a single operation.

CoinDesk reports Solana is scheduled to raise its maximum transaction size on Wednesday from 1,232 bytes to 4,096 bytes as part of the Transaction v1 feature, which gives developers more room to pack instructions into one transaction.

The upgrade is designed to let operations that previously had to be split across multiple transactions fit into a single one, including large cryptographic proofs, payments requiring many approvals and some confidential transfers.

CoinDesk adds that existing transaction formats will continue to work, so wallets and apps do not need to switch to v1 unless they want the extra space, but software that reads Solana data may require updates.

In particular, services that fetch blocks and transactions must recognize Transaction v1 to avoid request failures, and some tools may need to adjust how they display priority fees since v1 stores that information elsewhere, potentially causing outdated software to show a fee of zero even when one was paid.
