Arm CEO says AI cancer cure modeling is too complex now
Arm CEO Rene Haas linked limits on current AI progress to a shortage of chips needed for data centres, while he said computers will be able to run more advanced models over time.
AI will eventually find cancer cures that humans cannot in their lifetimes, the CEO of UK chip designer Arm Holdings, Rene Haas, told the BBC.
Haas said modelling how a DNA marker is impacted by cancer is currently too complex for today’s systems, but that as more models are fed into increasingly sophisticated computers, the technology will solve the problem.
He also said the rapid growth of AI is being held back by a shortage of chips required to build data centres, and he expressed skepticism about the prospect of chips being manufactured in the UK in the future.
In the same interview, Prof Chris Bakal of the Institute of Cancer Research and CEO of Sentinal4D said the key issue is what medical AI is trained on, adding that future medical AI could deliver faster treatment development by using the right measurements from lab-generated patient data.
