China exports accelerate in August, trade surplus widens further
Exports rose to 25.0% year over year while imports climbed to 28.2%, lifting the trade surplus to USD 119.1 billion in August and USD 805.5 billion over the first eight months.
China’s trade performance strengthened further in August, with exports accelerating to 25.0% year over year from 23.9% and imports rising to 28.2% from 27.5%, according to analysis cited by Action Forex.
The trade surplus widened to USD 119.09 billion in August from USD 112.5 billion, bringing the cumulative surplus for the first eight months to USD 805.51 billion.
Action Forex attributed part of the export support to high-tech and AI-related demand, including a 42.9% year over year increase in high-tech exports in value terms over the first eight months, and noted that semiconductor export values surged even as shipment volumes rose only modestly.
The outlet also pointed to autos as a cleaner contributor, with auto exports increasing more than 50% in both value and volume, but warned the stronger external engine is not resolving weaknesses in domestic demand, leaving China more reliant on foreign buyers as trading partners scrutinize the widening surplus.
