Maritime groups warn geopolitical tensions could disrupt global shipping

Eighteen maritime bodies said the combination of geopolitical turmoil and a growing shadow fleet could weaken international trade.

CNBC Markets reports that 18 maritime organizations warned on Tuesday that rising geopolitical tensions are increasing the risk of a breakdown in international shipping operations.

The groups said a growing shadow fleet is also contributing, which could further undermine the reliability of shipping routes and affect trade flows.

CNBC World said the warning highlights how disruptions at sea could translate into broader weakness for international commerce as tensions continue to escalate.
