Qatar vows to prioritize China energy shipments via Strait of Hormuz
Qatar said Beijing is its largest trading and energy partner, as the two governments met to discuss de-escalation of Middle East tensions.
Qatar pledged to prioritize shipments of energy to China and to safeguard deliveries through the Strait of Hormuz, as Doha and Beijing coordinated efforts to de-escalate Middle East tensions, according to a statement from Qatar’s foreign ministry.
In a meeting in Beijing, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said Doha supports diplomatic efforts aimed at ensuring freedom of maritime navigation and reaching a comprehensive agreement for sustainable peace in the region.
The officials also reviewed regional developments and existing diplomatic efforts to promote security and stability, and they discussed how to expand strategic bilateral relations, the ministry said.
A read-out from China’s foreign ministry added that Sheikh Mohammed told China that Qatar would overcome difficulties, prioritise China’s energy supply, and work with China to advance a new “golden decade” in bilateral ties, noting Beijing is Qatar’s largest trading and energy partner, the SCMP Economy reported.
