Thailand police arrest 12 South Koreans over alleged scam call centre
Authorities said the alleged call centre included 13 VoIP-equipped workstations and dozens of computers and phones, along with scripts used to target victims.
Thai authorities have arrested 12 South Koreans and a Chinese national accused of operating a scam call centre from a high-end rented house south of Bangkok, according to police statements reported by SCMP Economy.
Investigators said the suspects entered Thailand from a neighbouring country and were based in Samut Prakan province, where police found a call centre set-up with 13 workstations equipped with Voice over Internet Protocol phones, as well as dozens of computers, mobile phones, and scam scripts.
The police also reported finding a list of South Korean victims and forged documents that allegedly claimed to be official letters from the South Korean prosecutor’s office.
The report cited a broader regional pattern, noting that Cambodia and Myanmar, which border Thailand, have been used by criminal groups running fake romance, investment, and other schemes that defraud victims globally, with authorities in those countries also having raided scam compounds in recent months.
