Trump warns Bombardier it must move manufacturing to sell in the US
The warning lands as Canada prepares retaliatory tariffs on $20 billion of US goods.
President Donald Trump warned Canadian aircraft maker Bombardier that it can no longer sell in the United States unless it moves its manufacturing there, posting on Truth Social that “NO MORE SELLING BOMBARDIER IN THE UNITED STATES!” The threat comes amid an escalating trade dispute between the two countries.
The move is timed ahead of Canadian retaliatory tariffs scheduled to be imposed on $20 billion worth of US goods, according to the report. It is unclear how Trump plans to block Bombardier from selling in the US.
Bombardier said it employs thousands of American workers and emphasized its partnerships with US companies. The company operates a factory in Kansas that builds special mission military planes and employs about 3,500 Americans, and it also has sites across multiple US states. Bombardier added that about half of its fleet, 5,100 aircraft, is operated by customers based in the United States.
Bombardier also said its plan is to continue investing in employees, customers, and the communities where it operates across the country. The report notes Bombardier aircraft are built at facilities in Canada, the US, and Mexico, and that they comply with the North American free trade agreement known as USMCA in the US.
