UK announces trade ban on goods from Israeli West Bank settlements

The ban is coordinated with France and Canada, and the UK says it is acting to oppose settlement expansion.

Britain announced a trade ban on goods made in Israeli settlements in the occupied West Bank, coordinating the move with France and Canada as Israel faces increasing diplomatic isolation, according to SCMP Economy.

British Foreign Minister Ed Miliband told the House of Commons that the UK can no longer “call out” injustice and suffering without taking action, linking the policy to its support for a two-state solution.

Miliband said London believes the occupation in the West Bank is unlawful and claimed there is ethnic cleansing of Palestinians in parts of the West Bank.

The United States, through its ambassador to Israel, has already criticized the new British sanctions, and Reuters reported that two Israeli ministers called for measures against Britain.
