ETF assets hit $16.4T in August as 134 new funds launched
ETF total assets under management rose 3.5% from July to $16.4 trillion, while monthly net inflows were $182.6 billion.
ETF Trends reports the ETF market ended August 2026 with $16.4 trillion in total assets under management, extending its growth trajectory into the late-summer period.
FactSet data cited by ETF Trends showed monthly net inflows moderated 5.5% to $182.6 billion, but overall asset growth still increased 3.5% from July.
The outlet also points to two notable themes behind the figures, including a record pace of new ETF innovation. In August, 134 new ETFs were launched, bringing year-to-date totals to 1,023 new launches, a pace running 52% ahead of the same time last year.
ETF Trends further highlights that about 25% of all new August offerings were leveraged or inverse ETFs, and it cites product examples such as single-stock funds tied to semiconductors and a joint expansion by Bank of Montreal and REX Shares debuting six 3x leveraged exchange-traded notes linked to indexes tracking iShares country ETFs for Brazil, Japan, and Taiwan.
