Florida cities lead WalletHub retirement ranking for tax-friendliness

Orlando, Miami and Tampa took three of the top five spots, aided by Florida’s lack of estate, inheritance and income taxes.

HousingWire reports that WalletHub ranked Orlando, Miami and Tampa as top retirement destinations based on taxes and costs, opportunities for paid work, healthcare access, and recreation.

In the 2026 rankings, Orlando placed No. 1, with its appeal tied to Florida having no estate, inheritance or income tax, plus moderate living costs and strengths in recreation and geriatrics care.

Miami ranked No. 2, also benefiting from tax-friendliness, and was scored highly for adult volunteer activities, art galleries and fishing facilities per capita, along with a walkability score that reflected access to public transportation within walking distance.

Tampa finished in the top three, supported by a lower property crime rate and additional recreation-focused metrics, while the report analyzed more than 180 U.S. cities across 45 metrics.
