Strategy pauses new bitcoin buys again, shifts to stock repurchases

The Nasdaq-listed firm repurchased $176 million of STRC and raised its digital credit securities repurchase program from $1.0 billion to $2.0 billion, citing a continued cash and balance sheet focus.

Strategy, formerly MicroStrategy, has halted new bitcoin purchases again just one week after resuming them following a 10-week pause, according to a Tuesday regulatory filing and an announcement from founder and chairman Michael Saylor, cited by Bitcoin Magazine. The company instead continued returning capital to shareholders through stock buybacks and expanded its repurchase program tied to its digital credit securities.

The filing said Strategy repurchased $176 million of STRC. It also increased the size of its Digital Credit Securities Repurchase Program from $1.0 billion to $2.0 billion.

As of 9/7/26, the company reported holdings of 845,050 BTC and $6.5 billion in USD assets, with its bitcoin purchases reflected at an average price of $63.73 billion, per the Tuesday filing. Bitcoin Magazine also noted the firm still holds bitcoins worth over $66 billion at current prices.

Strategy shares were trading more than 3% lower Tuesday morning in New York, according to Bitcoin Magazine. The outlet said Strategy paused bitcoin buys in June to focus on building a cash buffer, and it previously described the pivot as supporting a “bullet-proof balance sheet,” while also reporting an $8.22 billion loss in its July quarterly results.
