US attacks Iranian tankers amid renewed missile threats to a Navy warship
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy warned crews of oil tankers near ports in Kuwait and Bahrain to leave their vessels, citing retaliation risk.
The United States struck multiple Iranian oil tankers after more attempted missile attacks on a US Navy warship, according to a US official cited by SCMP Economy, who spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitivity of the operations.
Iranian state television said US forces attacked tankers near the southern port of Jask and near Kharg Island in the Persian Gulf, adding that the crews were being evacuated by lifeboat toward the Jask coast after the strikes.
The state broadcaster also reported a tanker was hit near the coast of Yekbeni, and later said another tanker was attacked near waters off Jask and another in the Kharg Island anchorage area, with crews evacuated shortly after the attacks.
Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Navy warned crews of oil tankers near ports in Kuwait and Bahrain to immediately leave their vessels, accusing Kuwait and Bahrain of hosting US forces and assisting in the attacks.
