US feed industry cites $267.1B footprint and 80,300 jobs
AFIA said US animal food exports totaled $7.8 billion in 2025 and that roughly 99% of federal inspections found strong safety practices at feed and pet food facilities.
The American Feed Industry Association said the US feed industry generated a $267.1 billion economic footprint and supported more than 80,300 jobs, citing its annual report covering the fiscal year from May 1, 2025, to April 30, 2026.
According to the report, the industry backed a safe, sustainable and resilient food system and highlighted efforts to navigate challenges while preparing for opportunities through collaboration, science-based advocacy and innovation. AFIA said its global affairs team worked to expand market access and elevate feed supply chain vulnerabilities to decisionmakers.
The report also pointed to safety and regulatory progress, including that more than 1,000 facilities are Safe Feed/Safe Food certified and that roughly 99% of federal inspections found strong safety practices and procedures at feed mills and pet food manufacturing facilities.
AFIA added that it advanced ingredient review reforms during the fiscal year, built support for the Innovative Feed Enhancement and Economic Development Act, and reported that upcycled ingredients made up at least half of pet food ingredients and 37% of livestock feed ingredients as of 2023. It also said US animal food exports reached $7.8 billion in 2025.
