AFIA rolls out new Safe Feed certification for storage and distribution
The updated SF/SF program, now at Version 8.0, adds a certification track for warehouse, storage, and distribution facilities, expanding coverage for more than 1,000 current certified sites.
The American Feed Industry Association has introduced a new Safe Feed/Safe Food (SF/SF) certification program for animal food supply chain members, covering warehouse, storage, and distribution facilities. Under the update, facilities that handle warehousing, storage, and distribution of animal food and ingredients can seek certification under the revised program. The change also lets more than 1,000 facilities already holding at least one SF/SF certification, as well as those seeking certification, reference Version 8.0 of the program. World Grain reports the SF/SF update follows AFIA’s yearlong effort to modernize the voluntary, third-party certification program originally launched in 2004. AFIA said the revision incorporates feedback from industry stakeholders and aligns the program with current industry practices. AFIA linked the update to growing demand for feed-safety and quality credentials as regulators manage inspections with fewer resources and heightened expectations. The organization also said certification can support continuous improvement, regulatory awareness, and risk reduction, with benefits including improved operational consistency, reduced liability risks, and enhanced credibility with customers and regulators.
