Canada agrees C$350 million air defense interceptor aid for Ukraine
The package will be funded through a US program that lets third countries quickly buy and supply weapons to Ukraine.
Canada has agreed to provide Ukraine with a C$350 million, or US$254 million, air defense aid package aimed at helping Kyiv acquire interceptor systems, Prime Minister Mark Carney said after meeting Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky in Calgary, according to SCMP Economy citing Reuters.
Carney said Ukraine is critically low on US-made Patriot interceptors that are designed to stop Russian ballistic missiles, with the agreement coming as Moscow steps up attacks.
He described the aid as equipment support to protect Ukraine’s people, infrastructure, and skies, but did not specify which interceptors will be delivered or when deliveries will begin.
The weapons will be provided through a US program that enables third-party nations to quickly purchase and supply weapons, including Patriot missiles, to Ukraine.
