ExxonMobil confirms Angola discovery at Vicango Este-01 well

The Vicango Este-01 well in Angola’s Block 15 was drilled to 940 meters and encountered 25 meters of hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone, the 20th discovery since production began.

ExxonMobil and its Block 15 partners confirmed a new oil discovery at the Vicango Este-01 well in Angola, according to a joint company statement, as reported by OilPrice. The deepwater well is located about 370 kilometers (230 miles) northwest of Luanda. It was drilled to 940 meters and encountered 25 meters of high-quality, hydrocarbon-bearing sandstone.

OilPrice added that Block 15 has produced more than 2.7 billion barrels over 30 years. ExxonMobil Angola chief executive Brian Unietis said new discoveries raise the value of existing infrastructure tied to the development.

The discovery comes about three weeks after Chevron reported a discovery at its 105-4X well in neighboring Block 0. OilPrice also noted Chevron is weighing a tie-in to existing Block 0 facilities rather than pursuing a standalone project.
