Friedman’s owners buy Upper West Side retail co-op for new restaurant
The 5,000-square-foot unit at 541-555 Amsterdam Avenue was purchased for $4.1 million, and the sellers’ existing tenants will stay put after the deal closes.
Commercial Observer reports that the ownership group behind Friedman’s Restaurant and Pastrami Queen acquired a retail co-op on Manhattan’s Upper West Side to open a new eatery.
The buyer, using the LLC Mountain View Acquisition, purchased a 5,000-square-foot retail unit at 541-555 Amsterdam Avenue for $4.1 million, according to the buyer representative Lee & Associates NYC.
The site currently houses Barney Greengrass and Hudson & Charles, and both businesses are expected to remain in their current locations after the sale is completed, Lee said.
The buyer plans to open another Friedman’s Restaurant location in the co-op’s existing vacant unit; Lee’s Peter Braus said the group is expanding in a top Upper West Side spot while keeping a local institution operating.
