Iceland plans shop opening in the Falkland Islands in early December

Iceland said it will open a shop on the Falkland Islands in early December, partnering with local retailer Kelper Stores for the launch in the islands capital, Stanley. The company described the move as its first presence in the territory by a UK high street brand, and said it supports the Falklands as part of the British family.
Richard Walker, Iceland’s executive chair, said the opening is an “important moment” for the business and for its international ambitions, characterizing the plan as a personal ambition to back the region.
The announcement comes amid renewed sovereignty tensions in the Falklands, after Argentine president Javier Milei stepped up claims over the islands. The article notes that Milei said the US is re evaluating its position on the Malvinas, while also pledging to sanction oil companies drilling in the territory.
