Senegal to put 109 oil and gas blocks up for investor bidding
Only four of Senegal’s 113 oil and gas blocks are currently contracted, leaving 109 available for the upcoming offering, Energy and Petroleum Minister El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf said.
Senegal plans to offer up to 109 oil and gas blocks to both local and foreign investors, according to remarks by Energy and Petroleum Minister El Hadji Abdourahmane Diouf carried by Reuters.
Diouf said only four of Senegal’s 113 oil and gas blocks are currently contracted, with the remaining 109 to be put on the market as the country moves through its resource expansion.
The minister said the president’s plan is aimed at creating local leaders in the energy, oil and gas sectors.
Senegal’s offshore discoveries have helped spur its petroleum industry, with its first oil project starting in 2024 and LNG exports launched a year later from a gas project offshore Senegal and Mauritania.
