SGX opens bitcoin and ether perpetual futures to U.S. institutions
SGX said the approval lets qualifying U.S. institutions trade its bitcoin (BTP) and ether (ETP) perpetuals directly, after CFTC authorization under Regulation 48.10.
The Singapore Exchange has obtained U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission authorization to open its bitcoin and ether perpetual futures to U.S. institutional investors, CoinDesk reported.
SGX said the access change is made under CFTC Regulation 48.10, a framework that allows a registered Foreign Board of Trade to give U.S. participants direct access to its trading system without the exchange separately registering as a full U.S.-regulated venue.
SGX also said its crypto perpetual futures platform launched in late November 2025, and has recorded $5.8 billion in cumulative traded volume since inception, or roughly 400,000 lots.
Open interest across bitcoin (BTP) and ether (ETP) stood at 1.3k lots, about $19 million, as of the end of August, with bitcoin accounting for 66% of open interest and 83% of daily average volume, according to CoinDesk.
