South Park creators change show name to SOUTH AMERICA

The renaming comes amid renewed Trump pressure on Canada and follows Apple and Google relabeling Lake Ontario as “Lake America.”

The creators of the long-running animated series South Park have temporarily changed the show’s title to “SOUTH AMERICA,” a move they framed as adopting an idea associated with US President Donald Trump, according to a statement posted by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

The Associated Press reports the change is linked to Trump escalating his trade war with Canada, and to his declaration that Lake Ontario should be known in the United States as “Lake America.”

The outlet reports the satirical move also targets Apple and Google after both adopted similar map labeling for US users, with Apple renaming Lake Ontario to “Lake America” in its Maps app and Google as well adopting the change.

The statement is timed about a week before the 29th season premiere, with the show now billed as SOUTH AMERICA, while also referencing the series’ parent company.
