Treasury plans up to $6 billion debt buyback, boosting longer-term ops

The planned buyback triples the usual longer-term debt operation and follows an earlier announcement involving Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, according to CNBC.

The U.S. Treasury plans to buy back up to $6 billion in longer-term debt, a move that increases the size of the operation to three times the normal level, CNBC Markets reports.

CNBC World similarly said the announcement is part of a larger, much-anticipated buyback plan and pointed to a prior announcement from Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent.

The reports framed the update as an expansion of Treasury’s longer-term debt repurchase activity, with the higher ceiling set at $6 billion.
