Treasury to buy back $6 billion in U.S. government debt

The buyback exceeds the amount Treasury previously announced as it tries to help contain bond yields, according to MarketWatch.

The U.S. Treasury Department said it will buy back $6 billion in U.S. government debt, a larger amount than it had previously outlined.

HousingWire reports the additional repurchase is part of Treasury's effort to contain bond yields.

MarketWatch said the market reaction has been muted, with coverage describing investors as still being underwhelmed by the plan.
