Bitcoin faces real-world quantum attack scenarios, editor says

Shinobi says attackers might exploit legitimacy gaps with either a fast exchange grab tied to ETFs or a gradual drain of early coins in chunks.

Bitcoin Magazine’s technical editor Shinobi says the “quantum threat” to Bitcoin is no longer only theoretical, and that real on chain activity could unfold with little warning.

According to Shinobi, the first sign would likely be subtle movement that people later realize is illegitimate, either a rapid attempt to access major exchanges and ETF-related holdings or a quieter transfer of early, Satoshi era coins in smaller chunks.

In a discussion with Grace Remington and Sean Hagan, Shinobi also frames the risk around attacker motivation, saying that intent would determine how any attempted attack could play out.
