BitGo CEO says tokenization targets access, not trading
Mike Belshe links today’s settlement setup to a 1960s paper certificate crisis, arguing it still limits retail users from borrowing against assets.
BitGo CEO Mike Belshe said tokenization is primarily about expanding access rather than improving trading, during an interview featured by Bitcoin Magazine.
Belshe argued that modern market plumbing traces back to a 1960s paper crisis that forced the New York Stock Exchange to shut down weekly to settle physical share certificates, and that the resulting structure continues to cater mainly to the largest players.
According to the interview, Belshe ties the “K-shaped economy” to retail users’ inability to borrow against assets rather than sell them, and discusses how concepts such as “ghost stocks” and tokenized equities could change that dynamic.
