ERCOT power demand stays near record levels amid high temperatures
The EIA said ERCOT’s weekly average load remains elevated as sustained heat keeps electricity demand persistently high.
Sustained high temperatures are keeping electricity demand elevated in Texas, with the weekly average load in the Electric Reliability Council of Texas, or ERCOT, remaining near record highs, according to the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The EIA said persistently high electricity demand is being driven by ongoing heat across the region, where ERCOT manages most of the state’s power supply and transmission.
As temperatures continue to weigh on usage, the EIA noted that electricity demand has stayed high enough to keep ERCOT’s load near its recent peak levels.
