Scott Bessent considered for Trump AI czar role

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent is reportedly being considered as the next AI czar for President Donald Trump, according to Semafor, which cited three sources familiar with the matter.
The consideration comes days after Trump announced plans for an “AI Force” amid rising concerns about AI risks, and his Sept. 19 Truth Social post did not include many details about the role’s responsibilities.
The reported candidates besides Bessent include Michael Kratsios, the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy director, and Scott Kupor, director of the Office of Personnel Management, along with National Cyber Director Sean Cairncross.
The outlet notes Trump previously tapped David Sacks as his AI and crypto czar, but Sacks stepped down earlier this year after reaching his service limit as a special government employee, while continuing to advise the president through the President’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
