Solana tops Ethereum in fees, while Ethereum keeps the burn lead

On Sept. 22, Solana posted about $1.1 million in chain fees over 24 hours versus Ethereum's $649,423, while Ethereum burned $226,298 in revenue compared with Solana's $117,138.

Solana generated more user transaction fees than Ethereum in data provider DefiLlama's Sept. 22 snapshot, while Ethereum burned more fees, highlighting how fee collection and token supply effects can diverge. CryptoSlate reports that DefiLlama's dashboard showed Solana at about $1.1 million in chain fees over 24 hours and $117,138 in reported chain revenue, compared with Ethereum at $649,423 in fees and $226,298 in revenue.

The split matters because the two metrics capture different economic pathways for users. Ethereum's reported revenue reflects fees burned, removing tokens from supply without paying holders cash, while Solana users' spending can be directed to validators and applications even if holders do not see an equivalent supply impact.

DefiLlama also showed Solana ahead on displayed fee totals over longer windows, with $23.6 million in chain fees over 30 days versus Ethereum's $12 million. On the burn comparison, Solana's reported burn was $2.66 million versus Ethereum's $2.8 million over the same 30-day table view, with the outlet noting that exact window endpoints were not disclosed and different daily figures appeared in the shared tables.

The comparison is also complicated by fee design. Under Solana's rules, half of a base charge is burned and half goes to the validator, while validator priority fees can raise validator receipts without increasing burn, and Ethereum burns execution base fees while priority tips go to validators. The article also notes DefiLlama's Ethereum data includes blob fees in both total fees and reported burns, which can affect how totals translate into supply changes.
