SEC grants conditional nod for tokenized NMS stocks to trade onchain
The SEC’s five-year exemption covers permissioned automated market makers, while the CFTC issued introducing-broker relief to passive software providers.
The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission issued a five-year, conditional exemption allowing tokenized National Market System stocks to trade onchain using permissioned automated market makers, according to The Defiant. The SEC action comes amid heightened scrutiny of crypto market structure and follows recent congressional and regulator signals about possible rulemaking paths.
On the same morning, Commodity Futures Trading Commission staff opened introducing-broker relief for passive software providers across the industry, The Defiant reported. The sequence of regulatory moves followed the Senate blocking the CLARITY Act, and came shortly after the two chairmen said they would write crypto rules without it.
The Defiant also noted that Uniswap’s token rose 19.8% over 24 hours in connection with the announcement cycle. The report frames the SEC and CFTC actions as steps that could expand the operational scope for onchain trading infrastructure.
