Strait of Hormuz traffic falls to three commodity vessels
Kpler data cited by Reuters showed outbound traffic in the past day, with Tuesday's vessel count also below Monday’s and far under the 10-day average of about 15.
Only three commodity vessels transited the Strait of Hormuz over the past day, according to preliminary tanker-tracking data from Kpler, as cited by Reuters.
The observed traffic included one Panamax oil tanker outbound, while Tuesday’s four-vessel level on Monday was higher and the latest count remained well below the 10-day moving average of roughly 15 vessel transits.
The tracking also excludes ships that switched off their positioning systems to avoid detection or potential attacks, according to the report.
Owners and energy exporters are taking greater care amid renewed disruptions in the region, including strikes on tankers, threats from Iran-aligned Houthis in the Red Sea, and a temporary shutdown of Saudi Arabia’s East-West onshore pipeline, Reuters said. The Kingdom restored partial service on the East-West route on Tuesday to bypass Hormuz and move crude oil out of the Red Sea port of Yanbu, while Bab el-Mandeb Strait traffic appeared steadier, with 22 commodity vessels moving in and out of the Red Sea versus an average of about 26 per day, per Kpler data compiled by Reuters.
