Silver steadies as U.S. and China summit expectations weigh

Silver December futures opened at $67.61 per ounce and were later reported at $65.72 as investors looked ahead to Xi Jinping’s first Washington visit in 11 years.

Silver prices settled lower in the morning ahead of a key U.S.-China summit, with expectations around multiple policy and trade topics weighing on the metal, according to Yahoo Finance.

In Wednesday’s session, December silver futures opened at $67.61 per ounce, up 0.2% from Tuesday’s close, before settling at $65.72 as of 7:08 a.m. ET.

The report tied the softer tone to Chinese President Xi Jinping’s first visit to Washington in 11 years, with a full agenda that could affect silver, including AI, trade negotiations, rare earth minerals, and the war in Iran.

It also noted that U.S. and Iran talks at the United Nations raised hopes for a more peaceful path forward, while oil prices were down nearly 10% over the prior five days.
