UN Security Council to hear AI risk briefings from major tech firms
The council will also invite Chinese AI startups DeepSeek and Moonshot to make statements on AI safety concerns.
The UN Security Council is scheduled to hold a briefing session on artificial intelligence risks on Wednesday afternoon, with executives and researchers from multiple major AI companies set to brief the 15-member body.
OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei, AI safety researcher Yoshua Bengio, and Hugging Face CEO Clément Delangue are on the agenda, and the Chinese startups DeepSeek and Moonshot will be invited to speak as well.
The meeting, organized by France, is chaired by Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot and is reported to focus on the risk of AI systems going beyond human control, including potential impacts like cyberattacks, election influence, and weapon design without a person in the loop.
The session also comes amid a broader public debate over AI pacing: Amodei previously argued for deliberately slowing the development of frontier models, while President Donald Trump dismissed AI takeover warnings as a hoax.
