Uniswap DAO votes to reclaim $42m in governance tokens loaned out

The DAO loaned 12.5 million UNI between 2022 and 2023 to the Uniswap Foundation and delegates, and its governance lead says activity has increased since then.

Uniswap DAO is voting on a proposal to reclaim about $42 million worth of UNI governance tokens that were loaned to delegates, according to DL News.

Between 2022 and 2023, the decentralized autonomous organization loaned out 12.5 million UNI to the Uniswap Foundation and several top delegates to boost governance participation.

Erin Koen, the proposal’s author and governance lead at Uniswap Labs, said Uniswap’s governance is now more active, arguing the loans have served their purpose.

The vote comes as Uniswap Labs and the Uniswap Foundation work to respond to criticism that the protocol’s governance is not as decentralized as it appears, including claims about the Foundation’s influence and decision making.
