XRPL validators schedule BatchV1_1 for Sept. 29 activation test

The amendment must keep support above 80% for two weeks, and the Sept. 29 window is the first production test of whether XRPL’s validator process and client ecosystem are safe after the fix.

XRP Ledger validators have put BatchV1_1 on a conditional activation path for 14:06:41 UTC on Sept. 29, using the amendment process and surrounding software as a live test. CryptoSlate reports the change comes after an earlier near-miss where a critical “pre-mainnet” flaw was identified while the related Batch amendment was still in its voting phase.

According to CryptoSlate, on Sept. 22 xrpldashboard showed 30 of 35 trusted validators supporting BatchV1_1, above the displayed 28-vote threshold. Under XRPL’s amendment rules, support must remain above 80% for two weeks, so any drop to 80% or less would end the majority period and keep the activation conditional.

The underlying issue traces to February research that found a critical authorization flaw in the batch authorization loop. CryptoSlate says the code could return success after encountering a signer for a newly created account with a matching key, potentially letting an attacker authorize a victim transaction without the victim’s keys if the amendment had gone live.

CryptoSlate adds that the XRPL response came in stages, first blocking activation of the original Batch and fixBatchInnerSigs with version 3.1.1, then replacing them with BatchV1_1. The updated XLS-56 specification now requires a multi-account batch to include the exact complete set of BatchSigners, with signatures bound to outer account details, batch mode, ordered inner transaction hashes, and each nested signer account.
