Bybit CEO says “pure crypto exchange” era is ending
Bybit is positioning itself as a broader finance platform as it already offers derivatives tied to stocks, gold, indexes, and forex.
Bybit CEO Ben Zhou said the era of a “pure crypto exchange” is ending, with traders increasingly looking for access to stocks, gold, forex, indices, and payments alongside digital assets, according to Cointelegraph. Zhou framed the shift as demand for multiple ways to trade and manage wealth in one place.
Cointelegraph reports that the comments came with Bybit’s launch of its “Make Your Move” campaign, which positions the exchange as a broader financial platform. The outlet also notes that Bybit already provides derivatives linked to stocks, gold, and indexes, as well as forex, offering price exposure without ownership of the underlying assets.
Cointelegraph cited recent industry changes, including BitMEX ending trading on Wednesday after 11 years, and CoinEx announcing a wind down this month due to falling trading volumes and rising compliance costs. It also referenced BitMart’s plans to close in July, with the exchange exploring a restructuring that could allow some operations to resume.
Cointelegraph added that Coinbase is broadening its offerings under its “Everything Exchange” strategy, including stocks and prediction markets alongside crypto. Zhou said the next generation of financial platforms will not be built around a single asset class.
