Continental Re raises $156.1m in IPO plans to boost underwriting capacity
The offer, opened August 5, 2026, includes $30 million in fresh primary capital and is set to close October 9, 2026.
Pan-African reinsurer Continental Reinsurance Holdings plans to raise about US$156.1 million through an initial public offer that includes US$30 million of fresh primary capital. The company said the new capital will be used to strengthen its underwriting capacity.
The public offer, opened on August 5, 2026, includes US$126.1 million tied to the acquisition of existing shares, alongside the US$30 million for the group. Continental Re is seeking to list for the first time on the Botswana Stock Exchange, marking what it described as an important milestone for both the company and Botswana’s capital markets.
Continental Re said proceeds from the IPO will support its next phase of growth by strengthening its capital base, expanding its Alternative Solutions business, and enhancing technology and operational capabilities. The company also indicated the funding is intended to support an upgraded financial strength rating over time, after the Botswana Stock Exchange approved a revised offer timetable.
