Crypto ETFs surge as risk-on appetite boosts Bitcoin and Ether
Bitcoin neared $87,000, while Ether rebounded to around $2,800, but major spot crypto ETF returns remain negative for 2026 overall.
Crypto ETFs have risen over the past week, with Bitcoin approaching $87,000 for the first time since January as it nears erasing its year-to-date losses after dipping below $59,000 in June, according to Yahoo Finance.
Ether has also staged a comeback, climbing to around $2,800 from an earlier low of $1,550, though Yahoo Finance said there is no clear catalyst behind the move.
The outlet pointed to a broader shift toward risk-on sentiment, noting that stocks are at record highs and that crypto has appeared cheap to some investors versus its prior levels.
Despite the rally, Yahoo Finance reported that most major U.S.-listed spot crypto ETFs are still down in 2026, including iShares Bitcoin Trust ETF (IBIT) down 1.3% year-to-date and iShares Ethereum Trust ETF (ETHA) off 7%. Measured from last year’s all-time highs, IBIT is down 31% and ETHA is lower by 43%, while Grayscale Zcash ETF (ZCSH) stands out up 184% year-to-date, helped by renewed interest in financial privacy and the ETF’s August conversion that made the coin easier to access.
