EU banking watchdog urges crypto lending rules under MiCA review
The EBA said it is considering how crypto lenders and firms that connect users to DeFi protocols should be regulated as part of the EU’s MiCA update.
Cointelegraph reports the European Banking Authority (EBA) has called for regulatory rules covering crypto lending, as well as firms that provide access to decentralized finance (DeFi) protocols.
The EBA’s proposals are intended to feed into the European Commission’s MiCA review, with the regulator laying out potential requirements for how these activities should be supervised in the EU.
The guidance discussed by the EBA centers on crypto lending and regulated access to DeFi, as policymakers assess how MiCA should apply beyond traditional crypto asset services.
